Scout Labs
Working to improve Boston's virtual community meetings.
In Fall 2020, I joined Scout Labs - a subsidiary of Scout, Northeastern University's student-led design studio.
Scout Labs is a team that's focused on local community impact, and dedicated to "build connections and co-create solutions with the people of Boston."
For our project this semester, we partnered with the Mayor's Office of New Urban Mechanics within Boston's government to research and brainstorm ways of improving virtual community engagement during COVID-19.
I designed a detailed "interview map" in Figma, to help us keep track of the research interviews our team conducted with city employees and community leaders over the course of the semester.
I also conceptualized and prototyped one of our final deliverables, which we called a "Landing Page Template". The "Landing Page" was our name for an informational graphic that could be screen-shared to virtual community meeting participants in the 5 minutes before a meeting began (on Zoom or an equivalent program), to convey key information like languages offered and dates for other upcoming community meetings.
The "Landing Page Template" was a realization of this graphical landing page design within Google Slides, complete with modifiable text. The idea was that a City of Boston employee could download a copy of this template, fill out the correct information for their meeting, and screen-share this Google Slides presentation to virtual participants in the 5 minutes leading up to a meeting.
