Water Pump Filter
Water filtration with a pump.
My Fall 2016 Cornerstone class was tasked with creating a device that could be used to efficiently clean water. As a solution, my group decided to create a hand-held pump that could be used to rapidly raw water from a contaminated source and push it through an activated charcoal and sand filter. I designed the pump and PVC fixtures used, and created the CAD model for the 3D Printed plunger that was sealed with an o-ring and used in the central piston to draw water up and down. I contributed extensively to the fabrication of the pump by taking components to my personal workshop to sand, drill, and assemble parts using my drill press, belt sander and other tools. The pump and design documentation was then presented to the class at the conclusion of the semester, and the functionality of the pump was demonstrated to be effective.
